The City Council will be voting on whether or not to spend close to $60,000 to continue sponsoring the Rod Run today.

The vote will take place at the City Council meeting scheduled for 6:30pm Tuesday at City Hall.

Assistant City manager Aaron Adams recommends that the City Council approve the sponsorship. It would cost the city $59,561.64, according to a city report.

The funds needed fall within the city’s fiscal year 2011-2012 operating budget.

The Rod Run is scheduled to take place on October 14 and 15 in Old Town and will serve as a fundraiser for The Boys and Girls Club.

There will be a mix of approximately 700 classic cars, special interest vehicles, hot rods and custom cars on display, according to a report prepared by Econmic Analyst Christine Damko.

About 50,000 people are expected to attend the two day event which will not serve or sell alcohol.

Promotion for the event will include newspaper, radio, television, magazine, posters and internet sites including www.rodruntemecula.com.

Rod Run attendees are encouraged to utilize the complimentary shuttle service which will be available at three different parking locations. The shuttle service will operate from 8am-5pm on Saturday October 15.
